Welcome to Vagari’s 7th winter of sailing. We have put 8,000 miles under Vagari’s keel during those cruises but this year like last year won’t be a high mileage year. We just don’t have the lust for the long cruises that we did when we started cruising but we still enjoy living on board and sailing near our homeport. Welcome aboard! We hope you enjoy our blog. Your comments, questions and suggestions are appreciated and encouraged.

The Video Generation

Even sailing is not as important as a PB&J sandwich and a video (3-D no less). Posted by Picasa

Male Humpback Whales Showing Off For The Ladies

The Humpback whale is one of the most energetic of the whales. It is known for its spectacular breaching and flipper slapping during breeding season. Humpbacks are highly inquisitive and will approach quite closely, showing little fear of boats. But this sailor has a lot of fear of them.
The humpback whales weigh between 66,000 lb and 106,000 lb. They are between 46' and 59’ long. These pictures are by my son-in-law Kevin. My digital camera has too much lag time. A larger one breached about 40 feet away just before these pictures were taken. Posted by Picasa

Too small and a Skipjack Tuna to boot. Rhea doesn’t allow Skipjacks aboard (“too fishey” If you understand that you have had I lot more beer than I have). Posted by Picasa
