I had the part I needed for the Autopilot plus a spare made, installed and tested the day after we arrived back in La Paz. The total cost was $10 (plus $10 for a cab ride to find the machine shops new plant. I picked it up on my bike).
We were tired from the two night passages to beat the head winds so we wanted to stay a few days to re-provision, rest and enjoy ourselves. During the morning radio net a single handler ask if anyone was going to cross to the mainland because she wanted to buddy boat. We ended up meeting with her and decided to cross together. Lynne Stevens has a 1600-ton ocean masters license from the U.S. Coast Guard. Lynne owns an Islander Freeport 36’. She worked on the Alaska Ferry System for many years. She is an interesting and enjoyable person.
Long story short we had a good trip, calm seas, minimal waves and no mechanical problems. We arrived in Mazatlan at 3 P.M. after a 32-hour passage.
Mazatlan is a large city (1/2million) that has a large tourist zone plus a large industrial base.
Our plans are to stay here for 5 or 6 days then head south towards Puerto Vallarta with some stops in some places we didn’t stop at last year.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures and text. I would enjoy any commentary you have on the pictures, text or the blog in general.
