This is Pichaco Peak northwest of Tucson, AZ. Its’ right next to I 10 you may have driven right past it.

I climbed to the top with my friend Martha (who has 10 years on me) and fellow hiking club members led by Dean Wilson during our March trip home.

From La Paz, Baja California South, Mexico

We left Mazatlan Saturday (4/8). We arrived Monday morning after a 250-mile mostly motorboat passage. Calm seas and winds. We traveled with two other sailboats. We are leaving this weekend for two weeks in the Islands north of La Paz. We will meet our friends Jean and Bob Ley in Puerto Escondido just south of Loreto on May 2^nd.. Cruisers get together the first week of May for a festival and a general good time. Following that we will spend two more weeks moving north then crossing over to our homeport of San Carlos. We don’t expect to have Internet access until San Carlos.

Male Humpback Whales Showing Off For The Ladies

The Humpback whale is one of the most energetic of the whales. It is known for its spectacular breaching and flipper slapping during breeding season. Humpbacks are highly inquisitive and will approach quite closely, showing little fear of boats. But this sailor has a lot of fear of them.
The humpback whales weigh between 66,000 lb and 106,000 lb. They are between 46' and 59’ long. These pictures are by my son-in-law Kevin. My digital camera has too much lag time. A larger one breached about 40 feet away just before these pictures were taken.

If you tuned in last years cruise you realize its “deja vu all over again”. Vagari had a hard time leaving Puerto Vallarta heading south again this year. In fact we will be here for two more weeks because Kim and family are arriving Friday for a little over a weeks visit. After they leave we will sail up to Mazatlan where we will leave the boat for 5 weeks or so while we go home and assume our dirt dweller mode and let the IRS know how much fun we are having. We should be in Saddlebrooke by the end of the first week of March.

We did take a vacation from our vacation as Rhea puts it. We rented a car for a week and drove to Guadalajara and some of the nearby countryside. The Guadalajara area has almost seven million people. It’s kind of like LA without freeways. On the other hand any place that has a suburb named “Tequila” and has a great climate year around can’t be all bad.
